Iams

Question:
Did anyone see the news today about IAMS. PETA is saying that IAMS is mistreating animals and using them for animal testing. There were some pretty gruesome pictures of dogs with open wounds and things. I went on their website and found this link: http://www.iamscruelty.com/ I found this to be kind of disturbing because I've been feeding my cats IAMS since they were kittens! I watched part of the video and had to stop because it was so depressing!

It's so sad to see what these animals have to go through. I don't know how anybody could work in a place like that.
Answer:
I did see that and could not believe what I was watching, some think it is Peta making a big deal out of nothing but I don't agree. A vet from GU said it is normal for pets to be on floor after operation even in local vets office but I have never been told that from my vet. I think I might call and ask her about that, anyway very sad that again Iams is in the news again. I have never feed my pets Iams, I'm now glad of that.
Answer:
We were discussing IAMS and cruelty a while back and the video was circulated,I gave the link to my vet and several friends.
IAMS food is garbage and even if it was good food I would never feed my cats IAMS,they should be boycotted completly
Answer:
I just looked at the original post (i guess i should have looked to see if anyone had brought this up before...OOOOPS!! ) I didn't realize that this was going on for so long...it's strange it came up on the news today. I guess there were some protesters in Toronto sitting in cages with dog masks on and handing out flyers.

Don't believe a word they say. A piece of pita bread has more credibility than PETA. Lunatics and hypocrites. Some of those nuts have been known to go to dog shows, and then let the captive slave show dogs loose into the streets. Five minutes later, the captive slave show dogs are lying underneath somebody's set of Michelins. As far as I'm concerned, IAMS should do all of their animal testing on the people in PETA. It would be far more humane than doing it on the dogs and cats.

Do you eat chicken? Do you eat eggs? Do you eat beef? Do you eat anything that used to be alive? Do you wear a belt or have a purse made of leather? Ever sit on a leather seat? What, you think you've never fed your dog the pieces of mistreated chicken, beef and horse found in his dog food? I could go on and on. None of those animals were treated well. Probably way worse than any mistreated dog. If you're going to boycott IAMS, then you'd better boycott every other company out there, too. You can't just pick and choose.
Answer:
I'm not sure if this is true, a friend told me that Iams admitted to that kind of animal testing but said they were changing their ways (someone else said there was proof that nothing had changed). Again, I don't know if it's true but it's just what I've heard.

Cruel animal testing or not, I still will never buy Iams. There are far better foods out there.
Answer:
When I first got my cats I was speaking with my Vet about which kinds of food I should buy and he actually recommended Iams (this was a little over a year ago). He said that it was one of the best kind of foods there was. I've been hearing so many bad things about it lately (not just about the animal testing) that I switched foods. My cats are actually doing better on their new food. I've noticed that their coats are much shinier and that the one who has always had some skin probelms has improved a lot as well.
Answer:
I totally believe PETA and think Iams is crap. I wouldn't feed it. Read the ingredients. PETA is an animal rights activist group and activists do use some really far out methods. I'm not sure i believe that they let loose show dogs, but possibly. Breeders do burn my bush I'll tell you. We need to learn to respect all animals, not just those that are pets. Belts and steaks are definitely animals. Thanks for bringing that up.
Answer:
Iams food is pure trash. In most of their foods the first ingredient is something to do with corn! I hope they get shut down.
Answer:
You'd think that I would read the ingredients but I just went by my vet's opinion. It almost makes me wan't to switch vets!
Answer:
Some vets feed dogs and cats in their care Hill's Science Diet. Now, I think that is garbage because I email them asking what their meat meal is made of and they try to switch the topic to something else. Like, what does it matter what food I'm feeding Bentley? I wouldn't feed him trash like that! And then they ask me to phone them. Well, email is just as good or better. And they don't even give the phone number to contact them.
Answer:
Yes IAMS is garbage, and this has been an ongoing topic for many years. I've seen numerous articles about how bad the food is for your pet (reading the ingredients list will tell you that though), and seen even more about the testing they do on animals. And just not those things mentioned from PETA. Anyways, Any dog or cat I know of thats been on IAMS has been ill, had problems from chronic diarehha, to severe hair loss, skin problems... and once going off the food got so much better.

I suppose like everything else you have to keep yourself educated on these types of issues and just don't support companies and suppliers that do this sort of thing (by not buying thier products). But it's sad to see what does go on behind the scenes, it can really take you by shock when you find out such information :(

Support Companies That Do Not Test on Animals

PETA has contacted hundreds of companion-animal food companies, asking if they conduct laboratory tests on animals. Numerous companies responded to let us know that they do not. We have compiled a list of those companies below.

View the first letter, follow-up letter, and survey sent to companion-animal food companies.

Companies that are not on this list either responded to let us know that they do conduct laboratory experiments on animals or failed to respond to our numerous inquiries and are assumed to conduct laboratory experiments on animals.

If you are concerned about animals in laboratory tests, you should purchase companion-animal food exclusively from the following companies:

IAMS cruelty DOES exisit and it has been proven.IAMS and it's owner Procter & Gamble continue to do business with tons of laboratories that are just as bad as the one Peta investigated. Iams also conducts studies on animals (dogs, cats,,,) in it's own faculty and refuses to allow Peta to view.
The abuse is astounding. visit www.iamscruelty.com

HELP!!! Tell Iams you're refusing to buy their products until they STOP ALL animal experiments.

Iams Demo

Dear Activist, (Sharon)

As you may know, PETA has launched an international campaign against the pet food company Iams, and we’re staging a local demonstration soon to protest against Iams’ abuse of dogs and cats in laboratories.

A PETA undercover investigator working in an Iams contract pet food laboratory found dogs and cats confined to barren cells, some for as long as six years, and being forced to undergo painful, invasive surgeries. You can help push IAMS to stop its cruel tests on animals!

Please join us for a demonstration in Vancouver at the Pacific National Exhibition on Hastings Street between Renfrew and Cassiar on Monday, August 23rd from 12:45pm – 1:00pm. Bring your friends, family members, neighbors, and co-workers. We’ll have posters, leaflets, and everything else you need. We look forward to seeing you there.

Please call Allison Ezell at 757-943-7452 or email AllisonE@peta.org if you have any questions or plan to attend. Thank you for all you do for animals.

Awwww,Boris has changed venue, from promoting cat declawing to promoting IAMS Beware of TROLLS animal-lover-friends!
I should add, although I do not agree with some of the extreme measures of PETA,nor their ideas about BSL...some protests, like the IAM's labs are an eyeopener and legit.IMOP
Answer:
Hey!!! I was doing some searching about the IAMS issue. I feed Lindy Nutram, a Canadian company. I sent them an email asking about their lab testing. Anyways, I saw that Natural Balance does not test so I went to their website and watched the advertisement. There is Dick Van Dyke plugging the food at the San Diego Zoo(controversial!) and then at the end he says that Natural Balance is available at independant pet food stores and Petco!! I just finished reading how Petco has been investigated by Peta and the SPCA for their horrible conditions!!

I've heard Natural Balance has changed something in it's foods ingredients (or quality). The lady at the local helath pet food store said she stopped selling it because the people that used it stopped buying due to problems with thier fur falling out and looking really nasty. And then I noticed that the food is selling at places like Pet Valu (which tends to be cheaper); so I'm wondering if they did something to affect the quality of the food (to produce more and sell it at lower cost to these kinds of stores; to strike up some kind of big business deal).
Answer:
Petco is a Crap Palace. (sorry, for my wording but it describes it....short and sweet)

For all you who live in Vancouver area please take notice of this demo. If your interested. We'd love to have you there helpuing get the word out about IAMS. Contact me.....Sharon ....at www.animalrightscafe.com or email me at sharon@protectanimals.com for more info or
(you can even email or phone Allison at 757-943-7452.... Campaign Coordinator People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)

You may have already received an email about a local PETA demonstration to protest against Iams’ abuse of dogs and cats in laboratories. This is just a reminder to join us at the PNE, right at the intersection of Hastings and Renfrew Streets on Monday, August 23rd from 12:45 to 2pm.
Iams will be presenting a performance of its “Superdogs” at the PNE. While these dogs are free to “run, jump, and retrieve at incredible speeds,” the dogs in Iams laboratories spend their entire lives in lonely agony in laboratories. Bring your friends, family members, neighbors, and co-workers. We’ll have posters, leaflets, and everything else you need. We look forward to seeing you there. Thanks for your support....the animals would thank you too !!!!!!
