Annoying new habit

Question:
My dog has started a new habit that is driving me crazy. A couple of weeks ago Cody (13 months old) started licking the floor. He just walks around the house and licks the floor constantly as he walks. He licks the carpet, the tile, the concrete in the basement, anything. He just licks as he walks. We have cleaned and vacuumed repeatedly and it doesn't help. Any ideas? Anyone else's dog so this? This can't be good :(
Answer:
I'd suggest that you *increase exersize* and give something more appropriate to chew/lick on, or something better to do ;)
Answer:
Yeah, to me (don't be offended or anything) it seems like your dog doesn't get enough attention, exercise, or something to focus on if the most fun thing he can think of doing is licking the floor.
Answer:
Some dogs are just weird like that. Before he passed on, my Lhasa used to lick our sheets, pillows and comforter obsessively. He would also lick the carpet, furniture...us. He was just obsessed with licking.
I've heard of other dogs doing the same thing.

Answer:
My old dogs used to lick our hands and feet if they were salt deprived. We eventually brought home a piece of a saltlick that was in the tack room at the barn I used to ride at. They stopped licking us, and instead licked the salt lick when they needed too.
Answer:
I have heard of dogs doing this as well, what you need to teach your dog right now is the "Off" command or "Leave it".
DONT allow it to continue as a habit. If you have to - crate him while your out if he continues to do it.
Dont want him licking up cleaning products from the floor.
Answer:
Hades has a thiing for licking jeans... and the couch. not the floor though.. It's a hard thing to break because if your not home you can't take away the floor...
As someone mentioned perhaps try exercising him more... it may be a boredom thing or he just likes too.....
