Help! I want to figure out what breed my puppy is...

Question:
OK,
Here's the deal. I found some people who were giving away their puppies from a litter they had. The mother was part lab, part australian sheep dog, and the father was mostly German Shepherd.
Now, my puppy, hopefully pictured below, doesn't look anything like those breeds - maybe a little Lab...
The litter was 5 males and 2 females. The females were identicle. This puppy was the runt of the litter. The rest were a little larger, and all of the boys had much darker coats.
Any of you have any idea what kind of dog this is? I was hoping for a medium sized dogs based on the breeds of the parents, but I keep getting comments about a certain kind of dog - I won't mention which so as to not sway anyone, but what are your thoughts?
My pups name is Lois Lane, by the way.
I have been able to find a ton of photos on google images that look just like her under "lab mix" "shepherd mix" and "lab shepherd mix" but evidently, most people don't know the breeds of their dog.
Thanks in advance!
Ok, well... You can't upload pictures as far as I can tell unless they are already online. So, if you think you could help me out, shoot me an e-mail to the address below and I will e-mail you back some different angled pictures.
THanks so much!

To post a picture go to www.imageshack.us and upload a picture. When it's done "copy" the last link. When you click on the reply button in this thread you'll see a little yellow square with a mountain on it, click it and "paste" your pictures link in it then click OK. :)

I have no idea but she is adorable :D I would think if she had german shepherd and lab in her she would weigh a lot more than that....:D
I have a supposedly shepherd/lab mix and she weighed 19 pounds at 12 weeks :D
Answer:
That's what I would have thought too - I saw the mom of this pup and they looked a lot alike, but the Mom was a good, medium sized dog.
:( I don't know...
Answer:
now that I look at her she does look to have some shepherd in her but 7 - 8 pounds in awfully small....but my vet said that my dog would be medium sized...and she is about 40 pounds now and she is 6 months old
Answer:
Any idea how big she will be? She is already 12 weeks old and only weighs 8 pounds... Doesn't that seem small for those mixes?

Answer:
She was the runt in her litter, do you think that may have something to do with it? She's also female. Is your dog a boy? I am interested to find out what a 25 pound shepherd/lab will look like...
Answer:
Nope mine is a girl :D and her name is Chloe and this is what she looks like now at 6 months

she is adorable. She looks like true mutt, lol. She has that look that a lot of mutts do (at least i think so) - i always thought it was a breed, but no, lol
Answer:
In the first few pics she is 9 weeks old....that was her first day at home :)
Answer:
In three weeks she grew that much? She looks tiny at 9 weeks. how much does she weigh there? Lois is steadily growing about a pound a week, maybe a little more.

Answer:
i see the sheperd in your dog, and the lab tail, but he weighs so much less than the average shep or lab would at that age. i would think maybe there is a smaller breed mixed in as well?
Answer:
if he had rhodesian ridgeback in him he'd be bigger.......in my opinion. the colors are right but the size is off.
Answer:
But she is totally healthy and eats a good amount. She was a tiny runt of the litter and has been gaining about a pound a week since we got her at 3 pounds at 9 weeks - a little more than that now that I do the math.
Is there any way of determining how big she'll be?
Answer:
I agree e.g. size . Looks like a little wiener dog added if I got the right picture .
Answer:
I was going to say shepherd/lab, too. ;) very cute! :) 8 pounds is small. I would check with your vet to see how big she is supposed to be at how many weeks she is now. please lets us know what you find out.
Answer:
i definitely see the sheperd/lab mix....most especially sheperd in the face. i can't tell how tall she is or how much she weighs, but it certainly looks more than 8 lbs in the pics. get her weighed at the vet and see what he/she says about what breeds she may be. i'm willing to bet he/she will go with sheperd/lab mix. i believe australian sheperds are a little smaller than labs and german sheperds so that might explain the smaller size.
Answer:
She is 12 weeks old, and weighs close to ten pounds.
When we get a few posts, I will post what the parents are and see if it is surprising.
Thanks so much!

Answer:
She DEFINATELY has dauchund in her!! :) Look at that LONG body!! hehe
Answer:
Despite the long body, do you see it anywhere else in her? You see any other breeds?
Answer:
yup the way her tail is set on her is tha Dauch thing as well as the angulation of her face and the structure of her legs(although considerably longer then a standard Dauch).
I want to say I see Shepherd in her as well.. but shes so tiny to have that.. I just want to say it for her black mask.. hmm..
Answer:
I'll say predominately Dachsie, probably mixed with German Shepherd. The tail, the eyes and the rear angulation makes me think shepherd - probably not a direct Shep/Dachsie cross but I'd pin those down as her two predominate breeds.
Answer:
Look at the paws in the first pic.
I see something else in her face though. I don't know. Can't miss the Dauchund though. I think she's going to get quite a bit bigger. What are you feeding her?
Answer:
NNova Puppy Formula... I was told that that is the best on the market. Any other suggestions?
In a few minutes I will post what the mom and dad were, but I'd like to get a few more comments.
Answer:
You know what the mom and dad are?
That's Innova you mean? that's a good food. I was just wondering because sometimes their food affects their growth rate.
Answer:
Innova - Missed the I...
Ok, this is funny because I posted the exact same thing yesterday on this very forum and said what the mom and dad are and get completely different replies...
The Mom was a German Shepherd with some Lab in her who weighed about 40 pounds and has the same coat/look as Lois Lane - my puppy's name. The dad was an Aussie...
She does have a long body, but that's the only visual I get from her as far as seeing a dachsie... Her legs are quite a bit longer than a dachsies (even a full grown one), her hind quarters remind me of a german shepherd and her face does too. She doesn't have dachsie ears, either. She runs like a lab.
I was expecting a medium size dog, around 40 pounds. Hopefully that's what I get. Her legs are twice as long now as they were when she was 8-9 weeks old so hopefully that is a good sign for some height.
I've found quite a few pictures that claim that the dog is a lab/shepherd mix... Do you think she will look like a combination of these dogs?
These are all listed as small shepherd lab mixes and look just like her but grown up.
She has been growing at the rate of about a pound and a half per week since she was 8 weeks old. She only weighed 3 pounds at 8 weeks but was also the runt of the litter. They hard to pull the other dogs away in order to get her to nurse.

Answer:
I personally think that she will be smaller then you expected, but not by much if she is alrady 12 lbs at 8 weeks old.
Our SHeltie Jada weighs about 16lbs at a year old, Crosbie weighs around 26lbs (hes a chunky SHeltie lol) and Riot weights around 54lbs at 10months
Answer:
Her mom was about 45 pounds I would guess...
You really think she'll be much smaller than that? Hmmm.
At 6 months, most dogs are about 80% grown, right?
Answer:
I love her little legs, reminds me of my corgi but I'm guessing its doxie in her. Shes a real cutie:)
Answer:
I can't find any pictures anywhere of a dachsie shepherd mix...
What features beside the length do you see in her that are dachsie?
BP
Answer:
The nose looks Dachsie to me. The front legs, the paws. Ears absolutely scream shepherd.
Answer:
Compared to these you see all of that?

Answer:
I know I posted in your other thread but to me in those pics.....she didnt look as long as she does in these pics....but i will have to agree with every one and say Dachshund (sp) :D
Answer:
You see Dachsund in her??
Answer:
why are you posting so many of these threads?
Answer:
I still see a little doxie in her face, with some shepherd tossed in.
It is possible for a litter to be fathered by more than one dog, so unless the owners of the female are *absolutely* certain that the Aussie (which i don't really see in your puppy, except for maybe the ear set) was the only male dog around, she very well could have some Dachshund.
Answer:
Let's get specific... If you had to give a percent like... 90% dachsund, 10% sheperd, etc. What would you say?
Answer:
I merged all of your threads together. You had FIVE on the same topic.
Feel free to keep discussing here...
Answer:
No one could ever estimate a percent for your pup. unless we could see her against objects to measure her size etc.
Honestly, there is more of a Doxie in her then anything. I dont see ANY Aussie in her at all.
and THANK YOU SAGE lol I was going to say something :)
Answer:
I've had Dachshunds for a long time, and besides the long body and relatively short legs---I don't see any. My guess would've been a Lab/GSD mix, mixed with a small or medium sized breed of some sort. I personally don't see any Aussie in her at all either. But then again, she could have some Aussie in her as a lot of mixes aren't totally obvious (for ex, my Tango is a Toller/BC cross but only I seem to be able to see the Border Collie in her. Most people think she's a Golden/GSD cross). If the owners of her parents said that they were Lab/Aussie and a GSD then she could very well be a mix of that, who knows. Rarely can anyone tell for certain what a mixed breed dog is just by looking at it. Especially since she's only a puppy..
Answer:
I'd say pure 100% heinz mix crossed with doxie mix. If it wasn't for the dioxie build I'd say shes jsut a heinz 57 but with that structure there is doxie somewere. You can't say what perscent she is but she definately got the leg genes from them.
Answer:
now that i see a pic of her a little ways away, i can also see the dachsund in here...long body, short legs, etc. still see sheperd and possibly distant lab and cattle dog mixed in.
Answer:
Her mom was about 45 pounds I would guess...
You really think she'll be much smaller than that? Hmmm.

not necessarily...dogs grow til almost 2 yrs. of age. my female lab weighed right at 50 lbs at 6 months and by 8 months she was 12 lbs heavier...she's topped out at 70 lbs.
Answer:
She will still be the same dog....size does not play that big a role-why do you want to know everything so exactly?-just wondering
Answer:
personally, i hope this person isn't so concerned about size and breed that they end up putting the pup in the shelter cause it's to big, to small or not the mixing they wanted.
Answer:
One thing that will give you a clue is if you'll look around the neighborhood she's from and see what kind of dogs are running about . . .
I think she's absolutely lovely. Nice, gentle, alert German Shepherd-y face and ears, and lovely tight feet! She could get those shortened legs from all sorts of places, Corgi mix comes to mind, although not many Corgis are running at large . . . even a Beagle in the mix somewhere could give you shorter legs and you'd still get a longer body from one of the bigger dogs in the gene pool . . .
