Please Help...

Question:
I need help, please.
The other day, my dog ate my razors.
I'm always in such a rush to get out of my house to get to work on time. I left my razor on the bathtub and my dog somehow got ahold of it while I was gone and chewed it up.
When I got home, my razor was all chewed up -- even the blades were chewed up.
Now my dog hasn't been the same. She doesn't want to do anything, she is not as playful and she barely eats anything. I have no money to take her to the vet.
Is there ANYTHING I can do? She is a Chihuahua.
Answer:
She Needs To Be Taken To The Vet Asap!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Answer:
Is there a vet clinic around that may let you work to pay off the bill? Or a community vet where they charge very little to nothing? Im sure if you searched online you might be able to find something.
Are you sure she ate any of the razors? And have you looked in her mouth to see if she was cut? Maybe see if there are any cuts in her throat also.
I would definatly though try and find some sort of vet care.
Answer:
I would've taken her to the vet long ago but I simply cannot afford to do so.
Not only that, but there isn't a vet in town (I live in a small country town).
Answer:

I do understand that but if I can't afford to take my dog to the vet and there isn't one in town anyway, what am I to do?

I would seriousely search vets out of your town. There are vet offices who will charge you little to nothing or let you work off the bill if you explain the situation. It may be a longer drive but its definatly something you shouldn't pass up.
Im sorry your in this situation im sure your stressed and worried as it is.
Answer:
If you live in a small country town, there will be farm vets around, and lucky you they are cheaper. You need to get the dog to a vet if it ate razors. If you don't, and there truly are razors in that dogs stomach you are going to be witness to something awful.
Answer:
I think she may have eaten tiny, tiny, pieces.
I was thinking when she poops, it would come out. Though I could be wrong.
Answer:
you have 2 choices:
1) Go to the vet and watch her get better
2) don't go and see her possibly die a painful death.
Your choice..
Sorry to be harsh, but there is nothing else you can do.
Answer:
I undertsand that you dont have any money at the moment...for your dogs best interest couldnt you work out a payment plan with any vet.....you can also use a credit card and pay off the debt later...as slowly as you want to./..if you love your dog and want to keep her alive take her to the vet and deal with the finances..later...im sure that you could reach a vet by driving even for 2 hours if u really love your doggy and right now you need too..
Answer:

It will come out AFTER it tears up her digestive tract. There has to be some form of animal care in your area.
Answer:
You said " a few days ago " ..... why didn't you post then ??? I would have said to feed bread until you could race to a vet.
Answer:
I hate to admit it, but she has done this before. It's my own fault, I know. I'm always in a rush to get to work and I leave my razors on the tub, and when I leave to go to work, she goes into the bathroom and gets it off the tub and eats it up. When I get home, there is a razor..all chewed up.
I just hope she pulls through this (like she did the last time) because there is no way I could afford a vet. I'm already living paycheck to paycheck as it is..
And no, there is not a vet in town. I live in a small town. Population is about 3,000
Answer:
Goodness, for the sake of repitition.. take her to vet pronto! Find a way to come up with money....
Answer:
If you can't afford to keep a dog, you really should consider if it is in HER best interests to keep her.
What if she is hit by a car? What would you do? Or if she gets an infection? What about her general health?
You need to set money aside EACH month strictly for dog care.
Answer:
Give the dog cotton balls soaked in milk or whatever you have available... It should grab most of the small pieces. However, it may be to late for that. You have no idea what damage has been done to her insides.
Even if you would have given her the cotton balls soaked in milk in the beginning, you would still have needed to take the dog to the vet.
Can you imagine how you would feel it you had swallowed razor blades? I suggest getting the dog to a vet asap.

You are right, that is the reason I was considering giving her up to someone who can take care of her. I simply cannot. Of all the pets I've owned, nothing like this has ever happened and it certainly wasn't expected.
I figured that; when she chewed on the razor, and it hurt, why would she continue to do it? And it wasn't just one razor, it was maybe 2 or more (I lost count).
I've got a lot to learn about animals, I suppose.
Answer:
You need to take action NOW.
It is ok saying you have a lot to learn - but should your dog be your guinea pig?
She is suffering as we type... Imagine what pain she must be in - razor blades in your guts!!
YOU are the one causing unnecessary suffering to her. It is cruel.
Can you imagine the consequences if you left a CHILD in that state??
TAKE HER TO A VET - OR GIVE HER TO SOMEONE WHO CAN.
Answer:
Just wondering . . . why ask for help if you're not going to take her to the vet or do anything about it? Doesn't make any sense to me. She could have internal injuries and/or bleeding.
Answer:
I was just wondering if there was something (home remedy) that I could give her to possibly help her ...flush... it out.
I also noticed that her vagina(?) is enlarged. Maybe it has always been that size, but I'm not sure. I never really noticed until now.
And she is eating lots of grass now.
Answer:
I live in a town with a pop. 3000. There are two vet clinics with numerous vets. There are vets within a few hours drive from here. I live pay cheque to paycheque (barely) and still manage four cats and four dogs. If something happens to them and I can't afford the bill I simply go without. That is what it is like to be responsible. This is a life that you have taken responsibility for. If there was no vet in my town I would drive 4 ot 5 + hours to get her the care she needed.
Answer:
I also live way out in the country, but we do have vets within driving distance. Take your dog to a vet, that is the only thing you can do. There is no home remedy, as far as your finances, I would worry about that later, I am sure you could work out payments.
Answer:
You need to take her to the vet NOW. I know you said there is no vet in your town although I find that hard to believe. drive out of town to find one. You can't afford it then call and find a vet that will let you WORK off your debt. Then it doesn't cost you ANY money so you shouldn't have any excuse now why you can't take her. TAKE HER!!!!!!!!!!!
Answer:
this is so sad to me, and makes me really angry. Take it anyway you want it, but like dizzy said, you have two choices, take her to the vet or watch her possibly die a slow painful death.
IT seems you can afford to have internet?
Now I'm not saying you CAN afford a vet, but how cruel is this to let the dog possibly suffer? Do you realize if you lived in my town anyhow, you could possibly be arrested for not getting the dog proper vet care? Especially after eating razor blades!!!!
When people take on a pet, they also take on the responsibility to provide basic vet care, this is beyond basic it's an emergency for gosh sakes!
Again, if you cannot afford to take it to a vet, contact a rescue in your area, explain your circumstances and turn the dog over so she can atleast receive medical care.
People never cease to amaze me.

Answer:
Folks... I don't think we're getting through ....if this has happened before, that didn't get through either. It's not that hard put put things out of reach for a tiny dog. I just hope she learns before she has children . I wish her well ....now the dog could be going into heat ?! No one should own a dog if they can't afford vetting. I know when we were practically pennyless, I had about $800 in my dog account from my litters..... my female that year ate that up when she had her brain tumor. Everyone should pretend that they are buying dog health insurance,,,,if you put $25 a month into an account or envelope you'd be surprised how fast it adds up.
Answer:
PS... being Monday , I presume this happened on Friday ( you off to work ) ...how is she tonight ??? It either passed or she's dying at this point .
Answer:
If you really wanted to help her you would have found out some way by now.
Answer:
I called a vet and they said since it happened so long ago, I have nothing to worry about.
She told me to look out for bloody stools and if my dog cries in pain or if she arches her back. Or is she cries from me holding her.
None of those things happened, and plus it happened long ago -- I have nothing to worry about, so says the vet.
Answer:
But is she still lethargic and not normal to you?
I feel so bad for both of you, what a sticky situation.

Answer:

Well that is pretty normal since there isn't really much to do. I bring her outside and she is fine, but in the house, she does nothing but lay down because there is not really much else to do.
She wouldn't eat and the vet said that is because I feed her table food. She won't eat her dog food, but she'll eat table food.
Answer:
Sounds like she may be fine, I hope for her sake! But in the future I recommend that you start a "In case of emergency" fund for her. Put away a bit of money every paycheck, set it aside for her for just these types of situation.
I had a difficult time reading to the end. The thought of your dog suffering through this was too much to bear. Please keep us posted on how she's doing.
Answer:
I am going to tell you one more time...cotton balls soaked in milk are your best bet, if your not going to the vet.
If you don't believe me, Google it...
Sorry, but you have such a lackadaisical attitude about this, it worries me.
I understand dogs can get into many things they shouldn't, but it is up to us as owners to protect the health of our animals, just like a child. Please dog proof your home, and keep an eye on her. You might consider, if she makes it through this...either taking out dog insurance, or a savings account for her vet bills.
Answer:
Has she pooped at all since this? Or vomited, or looked like she was trying to? How much food did she eat?
At the VERY VERY least, close the bathroom door when you leave if you can't be bothered to put your razors up on the counter.
Answer:
She pooped a little within a few days, but she pooped a lot today.
She doesn't eat a lot though. I suppose it's because she wants table food. Actually this is a phase she goes through where she doesn't eat for a few days then she'll eat.
The only thing that concerns me now is that her vagina is swollen and she keeps rubbing herself on the carpet. I don't know if it's normal or not.
Answer:
How OLD is she?
Is she spayed?
Answer:
I do understand that but if I can't afford to take my dog to the vet and there isn't one in town anyway, what am I to do?
How about DON"T get a dog is something you should do....Feeding, loving, training, discipline, and HEALTH CARE is all part of adding a dog to your family and if you can't or won't assume these responsibilities then you shouldn't have a dog....I suggest you get out a phone book (they have those in the country) and call a vet (so far it is free) and tell them what has happened and chances are they are going to tell you the dog needs to be seen and then you need to work out a payment plan, post date a check, borrow from a friend, whatever and take the dog to a vet....if she is bleeding internally or blocked you won't have to worry about it much longer anyways....poor dog....
Answer:
You know me and my hubby live paycheck to paycheck because he is HEAVELY in dept. Yes things are gettig better, but still as much as I wanted Emma I asked my mom and dad first if something happened to her if they would pay and I would pay them back out of my GIC that I co-own with them. OR I woulf work it off at the vet. I would go without food for my dogs if I had to.
Answer:
I posted my previous reply before reading all the pages and am glad to see you at least called a vet...I am wondering a few things though...are you sure you are really ready for a dog? It really sounds like you are having a hard time....I am assuming you leave the dog home alone all day while you work which is why she is getting into dangerous trouble, like chewing on razor blades...I will give you credit for at least leaving her in the house instead of shoving her in a crate for the day...but maybe you should limit her to a couple rooms that have been "dog-proofed". Also, you need to get her on a quality dog food and stop feeding her only table food since you can't afford a vet and the table food diet is going to lead to more health problems in the future, ecspecially in small breed dogs ....pancreatitis and nutrition deficiency only a couple of the problems. I am sorry to sound harsh, but I really think you should surrender the dog to someone more able place her where she can receive the proper care and if you really want a pet, get something a little less maintenance like a fish.
Answer:
You know... I wasn't going to respond to this thread because I just knew I'd wind up sounding like a witch (which I am truly not) BUT...
I am so sick and tired of people having pets and then whining they don't have the money to take care of them. Why bother to get the pets to begin with if you can't provide for them adequately. And I'm sorry.. but to me.. adequately doesn't only mean shelter, food and water. It also means providing necessary medical care when necessary.
I don't live high on the hog and like most of the world, I too live pay check to pay check because I live beyone my means on a regular basis. But I would sacrifice elsewhere if one of my pets needed medical care and I did not have the funds to pay for it. I would do SOMETHING... even if I had to borrow the money.
And I don't mean to sound like I am attacking you... but this is NOT the first time your dog has done this. Whether you are in a hurry or not, it is imperative that YOU provide a safe environment for your dog. Carelessly leaving razors on a bathtub where your dog can get at it is unacceptable. You know your dog goes for them... get in the habit of putting your razor up where the dog can not get at it.
One last thing... do you realize that if part of that razor perforated your dogs Gastrointestinal tract the perforation would have led to sepsis and your dog would have died a terrible death??? It would have caused all toxins in the intestines to leak into the peritoneal cavity and fester causing such a massive infection.
If you truly can not afford to provide medical care for your dog then you really should think about finding another home for your dog with someone who can. You just got so lucky with this. I wish your dog the best of luck.

I (generally) aggree with you but:
I have spent close to $2500 in vet bills since I got my dog. I am not going to complain, I just grin and bear it, but I never thought that I would spend this much money on my dog's vet stuff. food, toys, preventative stuff, sure, but he got mites (sand the vet waited so long to look at it, even though I asked several weeks before he did), and each dip/shot/dip treatment is $100. That is not covered by his insurance, since it was "pre-existing". the x-rays when I thought that he broke his leg was $250. Shots are not "cheap" either. I highly recomend to the mods that maybe we can post a sticky about things to seriously consider when buying a dog (IE insurance and food)
sorry. I thought that I could afford a dog when I got Thor, but it is EXPENSIVE and sometimes you dont really realize how much it could/would be.
To the original poster, I would highly suggest pet insurance from now on. it is $25/month, and covers all but preventative and pre-existing treatments. www.petinsurance.com .
Answer:
it may come out! thats what happened to vinnie e ate his bandana and sortof..let it out...do u no anybody that could help u? neibors?
Answer:
I hope you have learned this time round. The next time she may not be so lucky!
Answer:
Like other people have said please make sure you are able to afford treatment for your pets, if Casey needed treatment she would get it no matter what.
Getting pet insurance is a good idea and try to be more careful about where you leave your razors.
Answer:
I have to agree and disagree with most of you.
"People who can't afford pets" - This is so un-true. Who is to say this person or any person didn't make TONS of money at one time and had problems at work which resulted in that person losing their job. Does that mean since they lost their job.... they should give away their pets?
I think sometimes we need to see the bigger picture before we make our comments.

Answer:
Would insurance cover carelessly leaving a razor around ? I considered insurance at one point, but when I figured it would cost me $300 to $400 a year, per dog.... I think over the many years, I came out ahead.. by the way, for those who put off vet visits because of cost, a vet visit is less than what PTS costs. Tomorrow Chip goes in for his annual ... heart worm test, stool sample, heart check and tumor check. His kennel cough is due in August so I'll do that too , to save another visit . I probably don't need it as he isn't kenneled , but I'm hoping to take his to a Chaz reunion !!! LOL!!! I'll post what it costs tomorrow. I believe in preventive medicine , so he goes in annually. BTW ... If Grammy can do it on her SS , anyone can !
Answer:
Do you not know how to shut your bathroom door at least?!
Answer:
For gods sake I shut my bathroom door before leaving and my razor is mounted on a wall hanger over the tub behind a glass door. What is wrong with people?? You need to look at your house with a very critical eye before leaving a dog alone in it. I have dog proofed my whole house and Lilly isn't even a chewer!!
Answer:
Back from the vet ...$112.00 . All's well and she said his heart rate seems better !! Tumor too . He was his usual good boy self and she wants to keep him everytime we go in.!!
