Old enough?

Question:
Yoshi is 10 months old now and I was wondering if she is old enough to change to adult food or if i should keep feeding puppy food? If I keep feeding puppy food how much longer? I was just wondering because I was looking at food and I'm horrible with math and couldn't figure her age in weeks x.x
Answer:
I've always heard that you should feed puppy food until they are a year. But that is in big dogs because of joint and bone structure.
So I guess my comment is pretty useless.
So I'll be quiet now. Maybe somebody can back it up and say it's the same for smaller pups to tho?
Answer:
What breed is she it depends on the size of the dog, is she is big and on a high protein puppy then switch her now lowering the protein slowly, very small dogs can stay on puppy for its whole life, something like a jack can be switched at 10-12 months, its the fat content that you have to be carefull with, too much fat in the diet in a large growing dog can cause hip and joint probs
Answer:
protein content has nothing to do with whether a food is suitable for a puppy or not.
generally a good quality "all lifestages" food is fine for puppies and adult dogs. small and medium breeds can eat puppy food if you absolutely feel you have to, but large and giant breeds should eat either an all lifestages formula or a puppy food specifically formulated for large breed puppies.
food that has the designation adult food (e.g. "for adult maintenance") is not appropriate for growing puppies of any size.
Answer:
she is about 35-40 lbs and she's about as big as she'll get i think
Answer:
What is in puppy food that is not in adult dog food? If it is advised for large breeds to not eat puppy food, one would have to think that you would HAVE to feed a small breed puppy food?
Answer:
there's a difference in nutrient levels. "all lifestages" foods are formulated to meet the needs of growing puppies and adult dogs, but this is not the case for products that are designated as "adult maintenance" foods only.
along the same line, you don't even have to feed a small breed puppy a puppy food.
regular puppy foods are mostly just a marketing gimmick. large and giant breed puppies have vastly different needs tho, so some of the large breed puppy formulas at least do make sense.
