Question:
A flea has been discovered on our sofa! And of course, a flea in this multi-pet household is a major red alert. We just finished spraying the cats with flea spray, and will flea spray all the upholstery tonight. Fortunately, we have almost no carpet, so that's not too major an undertaking.
Zeus is probably the one who brought in the fleas, since he's the only pet who goes outside. What's the best flea preventative to use? I don't like a dirty dog, so Zeus gets bathed weekly. I'm not sure if the once-a-month topical flea killers will withstand the bathing. What would be best to use? Flea spray, shampoo, or what?
Answer:
I like Sentinel for dogs.Mine like water so Sasha and Rosco are on Sentinel. It cant be washed off.It also takes care of other parasites too.

You couldn't have asked at a better time, rofl. I FINALLY got my K9Advantix. I had ordered one batch back on 8-26!!!!!!!!! Even paid $1 extra for 3-4 day delivery!!!!!!! Then I gave up waiting and put in another order. Both came today, of course. I got the "Over 55 Pounds" dose, and will titrate it down to work for the Whippets and Manchesters. All I am going to do is see the weight range on the other size doses, and use that to figure minimum (55 pounds) and maximum, add together to get average weight, and divide by 4, so I will know how much 1 ML will do. Then use whatever part of a ML I need for 10-13 pounds dogs.
I will let you know how it works. So far Frontline doesn't do sh!t, and neither does the Frontline Plus. Regular Advantage didn't do squat either. Hope this will work!!!!!!! And since you only have 1 dog, vitamin B1 works (100 mgs per day). Also works to keep misquitos off people.
Answer:
Let me know if it works. I tried Frontline in the past, and it didn't do $*!t for my dog either. I just thought the bathing washed it off. That was a waste of a lot of money (big dog doses are so *** expensive). For now, I think I'll go with the old-fashioned flea shampoo tomorrow. It's just a one-time flea killer, but at least I know it works!
Answer:
The fleas are from the cats... put them on a once a month ... I think advantix is for cats too... Manchester, you'll be very happy with the K9 Anvantix. A couple of years ago my neighbors were infested !!! Inside and out !! All they did was dip/spray and bomb to the extent that they took everything out of their house !! Luckily they and their flea bitten cats and dogs left.... we never got a one !
Answer:
I hope K9 Advantix works better for you than it did me! The only tick I've ever found on Sawyer happened when he was on the K9 Advantix...haven't had a flea problem on either K9 nor Frontline Plus. I just like FP because it goes after more types of ticks than most of the other types out there.
Answer:
i would recommend trying advantage. if you have cats in the same household and they come in contact with your dogs, don't use advantix, it's highly poisonous to cats. the difference between advantage (active ingredient: imidacloprid) and advantix is that advantix has permethrin added, to be effective against ticks and mosquitoes.
talking to many other dog owners, i have found that for some people frontline works and advantage doesn't, and vice versa. it probably has something to do with the little buggers becoming resistant to one or the other in certain areas.
one thing i would not recommend is sentinel, since it enters the bloodstream, unlike advantage, frontline etc. which are topical. for it to be effective, the flea has to actually bite the dog and ingest blood, instead of pretty much dropping dead on contact. what makes things worse - sentinel doesn't kill fleas, it just makes them unable to reproduce. so your flea population may not grow, but you still have the suckers around until they die for some other reason.
revolution is a similarly ill conceived product. both sentinel and revolution also have considerably worse safety track records in regards to heartworm prevention. there are much safer products out there that have resulted in less adverse reactions and deaths over the years.

Answer:
Frontline Plus always works great for me. It is waterproof too.
And all my dogs love to get wet, well none of them are particularly fond of baths, but they love to swim.
I literally have not seen a flea on my dogs or house for at least 3 years, and my neighbors cats are covered in them.
I only use it from around may to sept. And I use it every 6 weeks instead of every month, partly because it stretches a little further, and I really don't see any fleas, if I did I would do it every four weeks. But with 3 large dogs, it can get rather expensive, even buying it online.
Years ago battling fleas used to be a major problem; dips, sprays, powders, shampoos, foggers, etc. Now, for me anyway it is practically nonexistant.
Thank Goodness!!!!
They really are nasty little creatures.
I hope you find a product that works well for you.
Julie.
