Argentine dogo

Question:
I saw one in person man they are not that big.I got to touch them they were still puppies thou. Oh so cute and full of life they were. This was last week I think.
Answer:
I have never seen one, that I know of. Not very common are they?
Answer:
Argentine Dogos are pretty rare here in the States. They turn into beautiful dogs . . . somewhat larger than a Pit. There is some good info on them at www.molosserdogs.com
Answer:
They are fabulous dogs but deffinately need an owner who knows what they're doing! Not good for the first time owner at all or the "too soft" owner who lets their dogs get away with stuff because they look so cute.
Answer:
Dogos have been banned from certain countries, they are known to be aggressive.
Answer:
They are NOT aggressive. They are defensive - as any good guardian should be. Sheesh. And fortunately, they are still relatively rare and don't have the problems with flakey breeders and flakier owners like so many of the popular breeds.
Answer:
I never said that I think they are aggressive. I said that other countries think so. Heck, I dont even know that much about the breed.

Don't hurt yourself backing up . . .
Answer:
I dont get it....what are you talking about?
Answer:
You can find more about them at www.dogbreedinfo.com
Answer:
I've seen that breed b4! I love them so much... ok, I've never met one, lol, but they are so beautiful. Especially when the ears aren't cropped... too bad they should though...
Answer:
Rottiegirl- What bothers Renee is that you make it automatically seem that argentino dogos are aggressive by pointing that out. Did we ever ask if the breed was banned? No. If we want to know that information, we'll ask you :)
Answer:
Awww. It does look like a really tall Pit.
Answer:
Well, that was the only info I knew about them. They are very beautifull, I wouldnt mind having one. Sorry but you can not tell me what I can and can not post. People need to stop assuming things and that is the real problem here! Too defensive.
Answer:
"They are KNOWN to be aggressive"
?
I don't think there's any assumption going on here. You told us a certain breed is known to be aggressive, we disagreed. I wouldn't call that defensive, I would call that common sense.
Answer:
No, you guys acted like that was my personal opinion. Sounds like an assumtion to me.
Answer:
Well, how would you feel if I posted something saying "Rottweilers are known to be aggressive"? Then I stated that that wasn't my personal opinion, just the only "information" that I knew about them.
You'd think firstly, where the hell did that information come from? It's very dangerous to lable a breed aggressive. It makes people assume that aggression from such a breed is normal, which it isn't. Renee is absolutely right, they are defensive not aggressive.
Answer:
seems to me that you are very defensive of breed banning. youv created several threads about pit bulls and there legislations, stating facts that everyone here knows already and asking questions that have been asked a lot before instead of doing a search, and now all you say about dogos is "they are known to be aggressive"? dogos are a guard dog that was bred to hunt jaguars and mountain lions, of course they are tough and tenacious and can be fearsome. your beloved rottweilier has a worse rep than the dogo because the dogo is pretty rare. my german shepherd has a worse rep than the dogo for the same reason, gsd's have been very popular for a very long time and dogos are a rare and recent addition here in the US. I know my gsd has a reputation, I dont go around saying german shepherds are known to be aggressive, even though thats the only thing that many many people know about gsd's. honestly if that was the only thing I knew about a breed I would ASK if they are as aggressive as I have heard rather than STATE that they are aggressive.
the dogo is not for everyone and certainly not for an inexperienced dog owner. they are high drive, they are territorial and they are protective, and very very strong. but they are not aggressive. no breed is inherently "aggressive".
Answer:
Hope to see many more of your intelligent posts, Panzer :)
Answer:
Whoa, Panzer, you're smart, lol. That's what I should of said, I just couldn't think of the right words like you did
Answer:
I've only ever seen pictures cos they are a banned breed in the UK. Lovely looking dog thou.
Answer:
[/QUOTE] The only good is knowledge and the only evil is ignorance-Socrates
Isn't is a shame when people open their mouth just to hear themselves think. Might want to take advice from their own signature, before they speak.
Answer:
Filarotten, I see you are getting little nasty. I know exactly wat I have in my signature. I did do my research before I posted stats on pit bulls. If any one posted that rotties have been known to be aggressive I would say they are correct, because they are. If every one already knew the facts about pit bulls then they would be a little more open minded about why some bans are in place. Panzer, How do you know what every one knows anyway? I know that dogos are not a problem in the US, and that is why I never once mentioned the US in my statement. Did you even read what I wrote? Once again, that was not my opinion about the breed! It was just something that I have known. Get off the high horse allready!
Answer:
If any one posted that rotties have been known to be aggressive I would say they are correct, because they are.
Golden retrievers have been aggressive at times, so have yorkies. Somehow I don't think you would have put "they are known to be aggressive" if you were describing a chihuahua. ANY dog can be aggressive, that doesn't mean they deserve a special mention about it if they are brought up. BREEDS arn't aggressive, singular dogs can be.
Once again, that was not my opinion about the breed! It was just something that I have known.
Not your opinion but something you know, what exactly are you trying to say? Just accept that it was a rather hasty statement that shoudln't have been made and cast you in a bad light.
Answer:
I think Panzer gets a cookie. :)
I've only seen pictures of them as well, but they do look...noble I guess is the word.
Answer:
Why did this have to get so complicated? I said that dogos have been banned in some countries and they have been known to be aggressive, That is what I know about the breed, but that does not mean it is my opinion. Im just informing people what other parts of the world think. For some reason I feel that if someone else like zoom would have posted what I did, that everyone would not have jumped on her a$$ like you and others have done to me. Correct?

Incorrect actually. I don't mean to be offensive to you, but I would have reacted the same way if anyone had been posting false information.
Answer:
nah, I would of jumped on Zoom's ass, too :)
Answer:
Wait, what? Why did I just get dragged into this? I just congratulated Panzer on having a ton of info on a relatively rare breed at his fingertips...
Richie: Watch your mouth, you. That could be classified as a felony in some states.
Answer:
I was not posting false information! It is true that other countries have banned the breed and that they have been known to be aggressive. There is a difference between being aggressive and being known to be aggressive.
Answer:
Be aggressive! Be, be aggressive! Goooo Chaz!
I blame the above statement on this hellacious cold/flu/West Nile virus that I have and I should really go to bed.
Answer:
Be aggressive! Be, be aggressive! Goooo Chaz!
maybe you should take up cheerleading!! :D
Answer:
in some areas african american people have been "known" to be poor. some people "know" that men are superior to women, even some contries "know" that. does that make those facts true? no it does not. just because some countries "know" that dogos are aggressive does not mean dogos are aggressive. the countries that have banned dogos because they have been "known" to be aggressive ban breeds left and right because they have been "known" to be aggressive. you cannot base your opinion of a breed on wether or not it has been "known" by a country to be aggressive. you wouldnt have gotten jumped on if you had said "All I know about them is that some countries have banned them for being aggressive. From what you guys know is that true? Are they aggressive?"
Answer:
I have said that it was not my opinion, it was just something that I have heard. No, I do not think dogos are aggressive.
Answer:
Dogos have been banned from certain countries, they are known to be aggressive.
It is true that other countries have banned the breed and that they have been known to be aggressive. There is a difference between being aggressive and being known to be aggressive.
Just as there is a great difference between the statement "ARE known to be aggressive" and "have been known to be aggressive," and between posting a sweeping declarative statement "they are known to be aggressive" and coming back and saying that is not your opinion, just all that you know about them.
Then you should say what you mean,' the March Hare went on.
`I do,' Alice hastily replied; `at least--at least I mean what I say--that's the same thing, you know.'
`Not the same thing a bit!' said the Hatter. `You might just as well say that "I see what I eat" is the same thing as "I eat what I see"!'
`You might just as well say,' added the March Hare, `that "I like what I get" is the same thing as "I get what I like"!'
`You might just as well say,' added the Dormouse, who seemed to be talking in his sleep, `that "I breathe when I sleep" is the same thing as "I sleep when I breathe"!'
~ The Mad Hatter and Alice, Chapter 7, Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carrol (http://www.cs.indiana.edu/metastuff/wonder/ch7.html)
Say what you mean when you post.
And, if all you know about something is an unsubstatiated, generalized sweeping statement, why not do a little research and learn something instead of making yourself look foolish by making a pronouncement that is only based on someone's unsubstantiated and possibly very unsound opinion? That just makes you look foolish. One of the reasons the internet is so valuable is that it makes superstitious opinions like "they are known to be aggressive" obsolete. The information is out there, all you have to do is search and do a little independent thinking!
Answer:
I was not interested in doing any research, because I could care less. All I was trying to do was bring some info into this thread. Just to let you know that they have been banned in some places and they have been KNOWN to be aggressive, wether it is correct or not. My purpose was not to tell you that they are infact aggressive, I was letting you know how some people veiw them. For example... bees will sting you. bees have been known to sting. See the difference? Wow some people are picky!
Answer:
we are dog lovers and yes we are picky when it comes to dogs, mis-information and/or a statement that anyone who does not know better would consider fact when it is just a simple statement. you have to realise that probably 99% of the members of this site fall into 3 categories: #1...people who know a lot about dogs and are here to talk about them and educate others. #2...those who know a lot about dogs and are here to talk about them, educate others and learn something themselves (most of the time #1 and #2 are the same) and #3...those who know some, little, or nothing about dogs and are here to learn all they can from #1 and/or #2 and think that a statement such as you made is fact. many but not all of #3 are young members who think if someone says it it MUST be true. the other 1% are people who post their opinions as if they ARE fact and will argue them until the end of the world as fact. of course this is a generalization, there are many members who fall everywhere in between #1/2 and #3. personally I think every member here can learn something from every other member, but most of us do get upset when someone makes a statement such as "they have been banned in some contries, they are known to be aggressive." because the person making it MIGHT (but hopefully and in most cases isnt) be trying to cause a fight or misinform others. I believe you that that is not what you intended to do but if we ignored it a lot of people might never know anything more about the breed than "they are known to be aggressive".
I am sorry because I was one of the members who jumped down your throat but please understand, I dont think anyone did it as a personal attack but did it to make a point that it should have been worded differently so as to show that that was what you heard and you wondered if it was true, or just to say that is what you heard and we wanted to point out that it was untrue.
Answer:
Yes, I should have worded what I typed in a different way, so people would not have been confused.
Answer:
Here is a great site on dogos. It puts alot of truth to my original comment. http://www.bulldoginformation.com/dogo-argentino.html
Answer:
or the "too soft" owner who lets their dogs get away with stuff because they look so cute.
Yep that's me lol.
Answer:
there are a male and a female at our local shelter right now, we are considering them, if i think i can handle it lol we have a doberman and a husky rottie cross, who both train and compete in shutzhund so the dogos would be in a working home. I just really don't want to see them go to an inexperianced home it could be tragic
Answer:
That would be wonderful if you could rescue them.
