Question:
Hey.
The problem with my dog is that when my parents go away and i am left to mind him he sits and sulks and when i send him 2 his bed and i go up to bed after 20 minutes he wont stop barking and crying until i go downstairs and sleep on the sofa he will then go back to his bed and sleep.
This wouldnt be such a major problem but my parents are going away on holiday for a week on saturday and i am dreading the sleepless nights which i cant afford to have as i have work in the morning.
He is an active dog therefore he is always took for a walk and fed well and given plenty of attention.
I just do not know how to go to bed without him barking and making me sleep on the sofa it is letting him win if i go downstairs but if not i know the neighbours will hear him howling which is not fair on them.
I need help!!
Answer:
Is there anything different in his routine when they are gone? is that where he always sleeps? Is he getting enough exercise when they are gone?
Have them give him some unwashed clothing or pillow cases - something with their smell on it when they go.
Answer:
or let him sleep where you sleep. Put his bed in your bedroom since he sleeps fine with you in the same room.

They stay in heat for 3 weeks. Thats 21 days of whinning & crying. It may not be just her tho as the "aroma" of a female in heat can carry for up to two miles, so this could go on forever.
There is absolutely NO reason to have any uneutered dog in your home especially one so large. Neutering also helps to prevent cancer, so if you care at all about your dog - send him for the big snip.
Answer:
Yes, snip snip snip! Aside from the health reasons, there is really no reason to breed more dogs -- plenty of mutts out there need homes and too many backyard breeders inbreeding the purebreds.
Answer:
Put a radio on in the same room or nearby and maybe that will help. Just make sure he can't reach it, or the cord. It worked wonders for my English bulldog I once had.
Answer:
Swimming, biking, running, whatever you can think of to wear this dog's behind OUT. Then when he goes to crate, he'll want nothing more than to sleep.
If you can move his crate closer to where you sleep, that'll help him be less upset and frightened. Or if he uses a dog bed, move it near your bed if you can. Do you have any aversion to having the dog sleep near you?
It's not easy being a dog sometimes. I feel for this guy. I also feel for you because I know how it is to not get the sleep you need and have to go to work like that.
Shelly, please neuter your pet.
