Question:
Hi all. I have a 5 yo golden lab female that was a wanderer. I put in an invisible fence and went through all the training on the leash before putting her to the test with the regular electrodes on the collar. She got zapped a couple of times, and didn't come out of the garage for the rest of the day. Now it seems like her personality has become ultra submissive, and it drives me crazy. I can't get her to come to me anymore, when I pet her she rolls over and pees. And yet, when someone or something walks by our house on the road, she'll growl and bark and run as far as she dares. We adopted her this last winter and she was pretty submissive from the start, putting a collar on her she would whine, and pee all over....
Doesn't like to play.
Any ideas?
Jason
Answer:
And yet another reason not to use those worthless horrible fences. I would suggest you never use that fence again. I believe she will only get worse if you continue this form of punishment.
SHE was a wanderer? No, YOU didn't confine her. SHE is a dog. Here is some information about submissive urination & help for it

You can also google "Perfect Paws" for more help on the subject. I would also suggest taking her to obedience classes to help boost her self esteem. It is going to take some time to undo the damage & you are going to have to be very patient with her. You should also be the one feeding her.
