Dogs and electric fences

Question:
well my dog sammie needs to bwe outside alot more then she is already. so we have an electric fence for her. i have put some flags up and walked her around them and when she comes in contact with them i say"bad flag". but she just eats the flag!!!1 and i have already oput the color on her to get her use to it. but she goes crazy with it on and then i try to bring hre inside to let her settle down and then i bring her back out its just like someone went backward only she is worse this time.please help on how i should train her and about her aggersiveness
Answer:
You didn't describe anything that sounds like aggressiveness.
Why does she need to be outside more?
Why did you get an elecrtic fence? Have you read anything about them on here, on any other dog forums, or anything at all?
Answer:
yes i have read stuff about them "they only keep the dog in and everything elese can get in". well we dont have time for a fence now. and sghe needs more exercise as im trying to say.and my opion is that if the dog is fine in my yard then she is all good. amnd the electric fence was already in thwe gorung when we moved in the apartment. which we have the only dog in the neighborhood so she is allowed to eb outside with other people.
Answer:
The dog needs more exercise so she can be outside alone inside the e-fence? Do you really believe this? The answer is NO!!! You will only have a very bored, probably destructive, but still equally un-exercised dog.
That is if no wild animal, stinging insects, or bad people harm or steal her. And of course also assuming she doesn't just walk out of the e-fence boundary and get hit by a car or get hurt by one of the afore mentioned threats.
Obviously everything you have read meant nothing to you, apperntly you think it doesn't apply to you or your dog, so anything anyone says here is going to be ignored as well. Considering your ignorance and high level of arrogance which is preventing you from learning anything and being remotely responsible with your dog...sounds great. Your doing a perfect job with your dog. Anything she is doing wrong is all her fault and there is nothing you can do because you are already doing such a great job that we should all model ourselves after you. Please take us all under your wing and teach us how to be as great as you.
Grow up already and take some responsibility. If your dog needs more exercise, give her more exercise. She is going to exercise herself far less when alone outside than she does inside with family.
Answer:
just do me a favor and go away. i want to rause her the way all my other dogs were raised an dthey have turned out fine. if im such a bad person to my dog then why is she perfectly healthy. tell me that. so ya i wnat to raise her the way i want not you . you camn give me an opionon thats it you cant tell me how to raise my dog. i just neeeded help not being told i am such a bad person you are one of the reasons ppl get mad on here you have to gwet all mad cause someone wants to know somethin or if soemone needs help. the ya er just askin for help!!!!
so next time why dont yuo just give some help not a screamin or insult somone.(im not tryin to be mean so i am sorry if i am. i just dont like when people yell at me for the way i want to raise my dog my mom and dad and brother and sister yell at me for the dogg but really i am the only ione that takes care of her. so im sorry!!! i just get mad)
Answer:
Get as mad as you want, it doesnt change the facts.
All your other dogs were fine and this one is fine so far? Great. My dad has smoked cigarettes for over 35 years and he is perfectly healthy and in better shape than most 20 year olds. That doesn't mean smoking isn't rediculously dangerous.
My point is just because you haven't been bitten in the butt yet doesn't mean you wont. Irresponsible is irresponsible. Feelings don't change it. I wont say any more but no matter what argument you attempt to make on your behalf, you are still being horribly irresponsible with her and your arrogance is embarassing.
Answer:
brad is absolutely right with everything he said & he didn't have to call YOU names to do it. You are only showing your immaturity by your response.
Dogs are stolen out of people yards all the time & used for pit bull bait or sold to research labs. Or they are just sold for profit. Tortured by kids.
E-fences do not stop other preditors from coming in & attacking yours.
The dog being out in the yard - is NOT exercise. You getting off your lazy duff & walking her IS. Here is yet another item for you to read pertaining to E-fences. You have to scroll all the way down.

Answer:
Sorry sammie, but I have to agree with brad here. Even with an actual fence, not even an electric one, no dog should be left outside unattended, it's simply isn't safe, no matter what your neighborhood is like. I also agree with brad in that if the dog needs more exercise putting her outside alone will not accomplish this. Not trying to make you mad again, but the facts are the facts. As for the electric fencing, it may work for a while, but one day there will be something that gives her reason to run through the shock and once she has done that she will learn that she can do it again. I would recommend that you use the electric fencing only when you are outside with her to supervise and for more exercise the only thing you can do is actively participate in exercising her more, she won't do it on her own. Good luck!

Answer:
We are getting a little unhappy with you because you are acting so stuck up. You asked for opinions and we gave them. We asked you questions in attempts to help you understand and become a better, more responsible dog owner.
#1, Why do you want to do this for HER? It is not good. It is a terrible thing to do. Don't lie, you want to do it to make your life easier.
#2, If she gets a 16 mile hike everyday, and is training for flyball (I have trained and competed in flyball, I know what that entails and it is more natural drive than training bot it is a lot of exercise) then why does she need a unfenced yard to exercise in? Especially when she will NOT get exercise that way?
#3, Just because you are to ignorant to be responsible and too arrogant to admit you are wrong, don't say that we are the rude and angry ones here. The only one angry is you, though I for one am getting tired of your idiotic arguments that argue more against yourself than for yourself.
If you will excuse me I am going to feed my dogs. I am going to drip a little bit of antifreeze on their food this evening because I want to do that for them. You can argue that it will poison them and that I am being a horrible owner but it is what I want to do, not you and you don't make the laws. If I want to slowly poison them to death who are you to say that is wrong.
(Just FYI, I am not, nor will I ever, do such a thing. I was merely making a point. Go ahead and do what you want, just eb for-warned that you are irresponsible and arrogant to the point of borderline stu-pidity.)

IM SOO SOO SOO SORRRY

Answer:
Was that the same reason she ate all that chocolate a while back? Because you wanted to do that for her even though it was very bad?? I guess we shouldn't have hung Saddam, after all he wanted to nerve gas his own people for them and who are we to say he shouldn't have gassed them and burned them alaive and had the rape rooms and tortured millions of them etc etc??? Hitler should be forgiven for all of his deeds, after all he must have wanted to destroy all "inferior" races for THEM.
So your saying that, in putting your dog in the back yard, alone with no one to supervise and protect her, that you are doing it with good intentions and for her own good?
All we are saying is that you are wrong, it is not for her own good but for yours. How long did it take her pads to callus up enough to handle a 16 mile hike every day? How much water does hse have to drink during and after that daily hike? What are you doing to train her to compete in flyball? If you can answer those correctly, even close, then I will give your intentions the benifit of the doubt. You'll still be wrong for putting her in an e-fence alone, but I will concede that perhaps you DO have good intentions. Rather than simply that you are lazy and more concerned with watching hours of Jerr Springer and Oprah everyday to properly exercise your dog and are getting annoyed by her begging for attention.
It is not bad to be ignorant and think that you are doing something good for your dog. What IS bad is to have people who know better, from persoanl experience and from years and years of education on the subjects, tell you how wrong you are and why, and to still argue that you are doing it because you think it is best for her.

Answer:

Hi Sammie,
First of all how old is your dog and what is the breed of your dog?
If you are taking her for walks and playing flyball with her she should be getting plenty exercise in a day and may not require anymore. Sometimes there is a such thing as too much exercise for a dog, they require rest too.
I too would strongly advise against the electric fence for many of the reasons posted here. She could get stolen, she could become injured when left unattended, and you have probably noticed dogs sniff, find and eat anything they can.
I wouldn't worry about her exercise because you sound like you are doing a great job with that.
I also would advise against the electric fence because of the shock. Humans don't like to get shocked, neither do dogs. It startles them and could make them agressive.
If you are going to take her outside more, spend that time with her, playing fetch or other fun outdoor activities, because she won't get any additonal exercise if no one is there to keep her happy.
Good luck Sammie, hope it all works out for you.
