Question:
hey all. I have a 5 year old gsd male who weighs about 130 pounds (overweight yes my vet said although hes from a big boned pedigree i need to reduce). However although on a strict diet he always before used to pull me when we went for walks, and now its me the one who does the pulling as he gets tired VERY quickly. can anyone suggest me a stricter diet and the quantities, i am currently taking him for 1 mile walks twice a day is this suffcient?
Answer:
It is great you are trying to shed your dog of some pounds. He'll have less problems on his hips and joints if he is leaner. What are you currently feeding him? You say you are having problems walking him? It may be because he is already developing arthritis and he is hurting somewhat. If you could walk him a little more, that would help needs a good 45 minute - 1 hour walks at least 2 times a day. also play with him outside, throwing balls, frisbees, etc.
