Mouse in Dog food

Question:
I found a dead mouse in a bag of dog food that i have already been feeding my dog! There was no holes in the bag and it is kept indoors at all times so it had to have been there since the bag was sealed. I am scared that he could get ill from eating the bag of food that the mouse was in. What should I do???? I have never seen this before and am extremely worried.
Answer:
my first step would be to contact the company of the food you have and let them know what you found. To be honest, I doubt if there is much you can do except notify the company. It probably happens more times then we are aware of. Not to be gross, but I would imagine any food processing company has their share of vermin and bugs. I once found a roach in a can of peas. Really was shocking to find. All I did was call the company, gave them the batch numbers they asked for and the sent me $3.00 worth of coupons to buy more. It took me a long time to buy that brand again, but knowing what I know about processing plants, I probably am lucky that is all I found.
Answer:
so there isnt anything that my dog could get by eating the dog food that had the dead mouse in it? Although I am completely grossed out im more worried about any effect it might have on him then actually finding it lol.
Answer:
I would throw the bag out after you have spoken to the co.
Mice can carry lepto which is transmitted by the mouse urine. If this mouse was alive in the bag it is certainly possible, but not probable. Is your dog vaccinated for lepto?
There are other diseases mice carry as well.
