Ear problems!

Question:
Bleh! Sula's at the vet right now, being sedated so that some grass can be removed from her ear canal...she started shaking her head like mad this morning and pawing her ear, so I took her in to a vet. Unfortunately, the grass is in there far enough (in the horizontal part of the ear canal), and she's quite impolite (read: angry and snarly) when things like ear exam thingies get stuck in her ears, so she's going to be sedated so that the grass can be removed.
Has anyone else had this problem? If so, do you know of any preventative steps that can be taken to keep it from happening again? I'm heading out to rake the yard now in the hopes of reducing dead grass bits, but was curious as to whether anyone else has had a similar experience. Were it up to me, I'd simply kill all of the grass, but it's not...the boyfriend likes a green lawn in the summer despite the fact that we live in the desert, and since he owns the house...well, you know.
Answer:
maybe some cotton balls placed gently in the ear before she goes out and rolls around?????
Answer:
Update: turned out not to be a piece of grass, but a big long piece of her own fur! Somehow it must have gotten in there (rolling around and rubbing her head on her rugs or the couch, maybe) deep enough and in such a way that it was driving her crazy.
I now have a $77 piece of GSD hair in a bottle. But Sula is certainly a lot happier.
Answer:
OMG that is funny. I mean I know its not funny but its funny.
I was really wondering how she could have gotten grass actually lodged down that far but I guess I'd have to say the same thing about hair! Now that can't happen to often. Thanks for sharing
Answer:
can you imagine the discomfort that gave her. Frame that hair in gold. am glad she is happier.
Answer:
Yup, it is pretty funny. I'm just going to have to find some other sucker who's willing to pay that much per hair...I've got lots more!
Answer:
ebay might be your answer. shoot if they can sell dryer lint, why not dog hair? (dryer lint is used for quilts apparently)
Answer:
That is totally bizarre!! And I am sooo glad it was you it happened it instead of me.........and thanks for the warning!!
Answer:
I'm just glad that it didn't turn out to be an ear infection, or something awful stuck in there.
Now it seems I just have to deal with a bit of diarrhea...think she might be having some after-effects from the sedative. I'm going to call the vet in the morning if things don't improve. In the meantime, it may be a long night..
Answer:
Most likely it is the sedative.....aren't these big babies just so much fun???
