Ultimate cat brush?

Question:
Our kitties really don't like being groomed all that much, so we're trying a number of different brushes to see if they like something in particular.
Smudge is the main one we want to be able to brush - she's short-medium haired with a thick coat, and she's ALWAYS shedding.
We currently have one of these:
which works well, but I don't think she likes the feel of.
We also have
Which doesn't get anywhere into her coat, and pulls no hair off.
Anyone got recommendations for any other cat brushes that work well on thick coated cats that they seem to like?

Answer:
Eithne recommended in a thread The FURminator ... I went and got one and I have been amazed to say the least with it ......... its fantastic for all lengths of hair ..... Helen got one too and I think shes been pretty satisfied with hers, too.

Answer:
Heres the link ........... we all got the medium size one ..........

Another vote for the furminator!!
My cats really didn't put up with any other brush or comb very well at all, until we got the Furminator!! Some of them still aren't thrilled, but they tolerate it much better. And it gets TONS of hair off. Really worth the money IMO.

Answer:
Is that second one you posted like the Zoom Groom? Is it rubber?
I love the zoom groom for Trout!

Answer:
Yup, the second one is like a Zoom Groom - only good on short haired cats. I think we'll try the Furminator!

There seems to be a medium Furminator and a cat one... Is the medium still the preferred brush for cats?

I think that "cat" one may be something new, I didn't see it at the store when I got mine (last week)...so I'm not sure about that. I was still iffy on the investment so I went with the small one. I'm happy with it...but most people here did get the medium one.

Waterless?? How did I miss that?

Answer:
Got back from PetSmart - $47?!?!?!?!? For a cat brush?!?!? Holy dooley!!
I couldn't justify spending that much on a cat brush, so bought a $7 slicker instead:
So far Smudge has tolerated it much better than the other metal brush, and we brushed and brushed and brushed and now have a solid ball of cat fur probably about golf ball sized, probably bigger actually.
We just brushed a little more and got a heap more fur out, so have plenty more brushing to do I think!
If this ends up failing, we'll try the Furminator, which I notice is a lot cheaper online, so I guess I'll get it online if we get it.
And yah.... don't know about the waterless shampoo. Our cats hate the water bottle - and therefore we shake it whenever we're doing something naughty, so I think the spray on waterless stuff would be very bad....

Answer:
I can tell ya what I use....a horse curry comb! I never would have thought of using it on a cat until I had it laying out one day and the cats went wild rolling and rubbing all over it. So,I just stared brushing them with it and you would NOT believe the hair that thing collected! And the cats begged me to keep brushing! They only tolerate me using a regular brush, but when they start shedding,I dig the old curry comb out! And they aren't expensive at all. You can get them at most any farm store for less than 10 bucks.
